SANCTUARY STORY

STORIES FROM THE SANCTUARY

Volume 17 january 2009

Happy New Year! I’m just getting to this issue after spending the morning hauling out the Christmas tree (can I change that to a Solstice Tree?), vacuuming up a million pine needles and carefully wrapping up the ornaments, many of which are 20 years old! Whew – it’s as big an experience putting away the holidays as it is pulling them out. ;)

Along with these traditions another one I make time for at year’s end is reflecting and answering some questions that help me remember what actually happened in 2008 – what I did and what I didn’t do; what I can celebrate and what I learned and want to do differently in 2009. With all the activities going on, it sometimes takes me a few days to go through the questions but it’s such a powerful activity, I’m always glad I made the time for it. How about you – are you stopping to think and feel about the past year? Here are the questions that I’ve used to complete 2008. Print them out if you wish and sit somewhere cozy with your journal to explore them. I guarantee you’ll be more self-connected when you finish and on the road to living a more intentional life! (Thanks to Helene Van Manen for this year’s version.)

What was the smartest decision you made in 2008?
What is your biggest piece of unfinished business still left from 2008?
What word would you use to describe your finances in 2008?
Where did you waste money in 2008?

What choices did you make in 2008 that you know you don’t want to repeat?
Who made an important impact on you in 2008?

What else do you need to do or say for 2008 to be complete?
What did I learn about myself in 2008 that will help guide me in the New Year?
Who do you want to thank or express gratitude/ appreciation to?
How will you do it?

What value did you live this year? How?

Did you feel like you had enough support in 2008? If not, where could you have used more support? In your business? In your financial planning? In your life goals?

Did you have enough fun in 2008? What are three really fun things you did that you will always want to remember?

What was your biggest high in 2008?
What was your low for the year?

Did you have a theme for the year? If so, how did that guide you? Looking back on the year…how did creating and naming the theme serve you?

And now, let’s move on to the New Year. I saw an image in the NY Times by Yoko Ono recently. It was an all white square and in the middle was the word ‘dream’. Well, unlike Yoko, I’m a bit more language-oriented, so here is what, for me, followed from that word.

Dream…
Open your mind and your senses to life.
Take risks, to find your balance.
Expand your vision, sharing the brightest of your Spirit.
Step into a new turn around the sun,
Its new day of possibility, fueled by your imagination dancing with the Cosmos.
Remember to see all that you have been gifted with – and give back your appreciation
In deed and creative expression, nourishing that which brought you forth.
Make this year the one where you become more transparent, dig a little deeper.
Sharing your authentic self with fewer restrictions, not letting fear hold you back.
Be the wise soul that you are, linked as a unique jewel in the web of life.

In 2009, I am offering all the ways I can think of to support you in living your Dream:
